of France Nicolas Sarkozy has been overwhelmed by spending more money than the
government limit in the presidential election campaign. A court in Paris
is hearing a one-year sentence for 66-year-old Sarkozy in this case.
Will have to wear fetters on feet while staying at home
However, the judge has given the
liberty to Nicolas Sarkozy that he can complete this sentence by staying in his
home. However, during this time they will have to wear ankle bracelets on
their feet like prisoners. In this case, the public prosecutors had
demanded a minimum jail term of 6 months and a suspended sentence of 6 months. Which
the court did not accept.
Let us tell you that Nicolas
Sarkozy was the President of France from 2007 to 2012. He again stood in
front of Francois Hollande in the presidential election in 2012 but lost. The
maximum limit for campaigning in these elections was 19.5 million euros, but
Sarkozy spent 37 million euros.
Sarkozy did not appear in court
Public prosecutors said Nicolas
Sarkozy had hired a PR firm to campaign. Who took over all his election
management. Before the election drew near, he was warned that his campaign
expenses had reached the ceiling. Despite this, he continued with election
rallies. Due to which his election expenditure crossed the government
limit. On Thursday, Sarkozy did not appear in the court while giving the
final verdict on the sentence from the court.
Nicolas Sarkozy has been
convicted before. About six months ago, he was found guilty of attempting
to bribe a judge. In this case, he was sentenced to one year in jail,
which was later suspended for two years by the appellate court while granting
bail.
There are other corruption cases
going on against Nicolas Sarkozy. One such lawsuit claims that he received
millions of euros from former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. A decision
can come soon in this case too. After the verdict of punishment in the
election campaign case on Thursday, it is believed that they will appeal
